Arbitrary beliefs

Your social circle is arbitrary.

You converse in your mind with your friends.

If your friends were different, you would have different dialogues in your head.

If you went to a different school or a different workplace, you would be talking to different people.

How about if your friends were from al-Qaeda, nazi party, church, religious sect, illuminati or proud veterans?

It is all arbitrary.

How do you like having your thoughts based on something so arbitrary?

People is just one aspect of your arbitrary life. There are more.

How can you take yourself seriously if there is nothing about you that is not arbitrary?

Your greatest enemy is in the same position you are - he is convinced he became who he is by choice and volition.

His beliefs are as right as yours and his values are as correct as yours.

You are both made up of the same material - beliefs.

So it is not you and another person that is in conflict or disagreement - it is the beliefs that are conflicting. And you are just a vessel for those beliefs.

Beliefs supersede you.

You will die for your country so the belief that your country exists would live on.

You will force your kids to study well, to keep the belief that education is worth the time. And they will do the same.

The belief lives on.

What is there in you that is not a belief?
